It draws its cold from the main storage compartment utilzing a special conductor wall. The exterior of the pocket is lined with both closed cell and open cell foam so items in the pocket chill faster and longer. As long as you sufficent have ice or even ice cold water in the main compartment your food in the refrigerated pocket will stay fresh.
No it does not sweat or leak. There's durable no-leak liner that is made of rugged and flexible high density polyethelene that makes it durable enough to sit on (up to 450lbs)
